まず僕は、表現活動は戦闘行為だと思っている。当然、音楽もそうだ。

　ことに音楽は時として宣戦布告の手段であり、また決起を呼びかける狼煙として非常に有効と言える。

　例えばフランス革命はラ・マルセーエーズの合唱によって起きた。あの曲がなかったら、マリーアントワネットはギロチン台に登らなくとも済んだかもしれない。

　ボブ・マリーの歌声が世界を震撼させた時に、ある人物がこう表現した。

「キングストンの田舎者が、藪の中で屁をこいたら、世界が震えた」

　あの頃のボブの勢いは、凄かった。僕は不勉強で、エリック・クラプトンの曲作った人くらいの認識しかなかったけど、世界は、特に第三世界は大変な事になっていた。

　ある時僕は、よこしまな気持を抱いていた女友達に無理やり勧められた日本人の有名サックス吹きのレーザーディスクを観ていたんだ（レザーディスクが判らない人はお父さんに訊いてね）。

　そのサックス吹きがアフリカの田舎を旅しながらサックスを吹くっていう、なんだかよくわからない企画だったうえにそいつが、自分の世話してくれた村へのお礼と称して水不足のマリでジャバジャバ水捨てながらコメをとぐって言うとんでもなく不快なビデオだったんだけど、その中でものすごく感心した事があったんだ。

　その中で鳴っている、そいつの吹くサックス以外の曲は、全部ボブ・マリーの曲だったんだ。

　何カ国にもわたる結構広い範囲を移動しているのに、どの村もどの街も全部ボブ・マリーの曲を流しているんだ。

　あのころ僕の周りには、アジアや中近東フラフラしている奴が数人いたけど、その誰に訊いても行く先行く先流れている曲はほとんどボブ・マリーだって言っていた。

　本当にボブの曲で世界が震えたんだ。

　僕は、老境に差し掛かって、大したことではないかもしれないが病にも冒されている現状で、自分の役割を考えたんだ。中央アフリカのある部族は、勇敢さを試す通過儀礼をクリアできなかった者は、鍛冶屋になって槍を作る生活を与えられるらしい。

　結局僕は、戦士にはなれなかった。だから、僕は鍛冶屋になろう。

　僕はそう考えたんだ。だから僕は、手先が不器用ではんだもうまくない。電気の知識も足りないし、楽器も弾けない。それでも僕は、音響機器のネットショップを始める事にする。音響機器は音楽が世界に広がるための武器だからだ。それを作って売ることは、だれよりも音楽の力を信じる僕の使命だからだ。
